Could It Be Brown Algae?

Hi All

6 Months I have had this tank set up and running without any major problems i recently decided to upgrade the lighting system in the fluval edge to take MR16 Bulbs been about a 3-4 days now and i seem to be having brown stuff appear on my plastic plants and on a few other things

i keep up with my water changes and clean any dirt/poop/what ever else is lying on the sand and the water parameters are always perfectly fine (apart from a strange ammonia spike when sorting the white spot out on my betta a few weeks ago)

is there anything i can do for this? clean it off? maybe a algae eater? i am unsure about the algae eater as i have a betta in there would that make any difference?

Yes, it looks like algae. You'll have to clean it off yourself; there are no algae eating fish that are suitable for an Edge, although you could think about nerite snails.

P.S; do watch those Serpae tetras with your Betta, won't you? They can be very, very nippy if not in a large enough shoal.

why is there no algae fish suitable for the edge? just curious because people said i cant keep a betta in the edge but i never fill it to the top so that solved that problem should i do a water change at the same time so i can clean them in the tank water rarther than water from the tap?

and yes i have been keeping a close eye on them they have been fine until the yesterday when i noticed my bettas fins the post is in the emergency section

All the algae eating fish just get too big for an Edge, or need to be in shoals of at least six, which would push the stocking right to the limit, just with them, and wouldn't leave room for anything else.

If they're plastic plants you can just clean them under the hot tap and give them a good shake before you put them back in
