To my unpleasant surprise I just found the bottom half of a shrimp laying on the substrate, the more suspicious thing is though is that there is a neon tetra who is fairly close, pointing downwards. Sort of looks like a swim bladder issue but its not floating or upside down just completely vertical. Its not dead but its pretty inactive, could the neon have eaten the shrimp and become bloated or something?

I highly doubt it

Neons and cherrys are about the same size. To eat a cherry, the neon must have a giant mouth to fit it in.

Well thats what I was thinking too but I had to ask LOL maybe a platy or danio got hungry. In my other shrimp tank the fish are scared of the shrimp but they're only harlequins whereas this tank has got some fairly large adult platys

Nope. In fact my neons never even ate the shrimp fry. I consider them shrimp safe all around.

My neons point a bit diagonal if they are seriously pondering some mystery in the gravel. They spent a good 20 minutes doing this in my tank about a week ago when I realized that after cleaning the back of my tank they would see a bit of their reflection against the new dark background!

LOL and they say dolphins are inteligent, neons are image-conscious. It seems fine today
