Cory With Parasite Update

A single treatment of Clout is supposed to run for 72 hours. I wouldn't change if it seems to be helping. If it is helping, wait a few days to see if they continue to recover. If they are still doing better, you may have it licked. If they seem to be slipping back I would go with a second dose.

The cory may have a bacterial issue going on from the marbles & leftover food. Corys will usually take care of any leftovers on the bottom, if they can get to it. Being bottom dwellers puts them up close to the bacteria from the leftover food.

Just by cleaning the bottom, and doing water changes you may help the cory. If not an antibiotic such as Maracyn & Maricyn II may be needed.

Was I supposed to just put the clout in once and wait? I have been putting it in every day! Tonight would have been the fourth time. Have I messed up?

If you have been doing water changes it should be ok, as long as the fish aren't showing any signs of stress. Aquarium Products, the maker of Clout, recommends a 25% water change & remed after 24 hours if the fish don't seem to be doing better. I used it daily on an angel a while back for a week, with 50% water changes daily.

My stats were finally good again so I didn't do water change last night. I just put in meds.
I will do water change tonight.
Can I just remove the marbles all at once? I want to replace it any way. I could go ahead and take them out now, and leave them out until he is better. Then put in the new when I am finished medicating.
I am going to do the clout again tonight, and get the other meds in the morning.
When I get them, should I swop right away or wait? When I do the maracyn I am thinking about putting them all together so I can treat all at once. Should I? Also do I do maracyn and marcyn 2 at the same time?

I know.... so many questions. I just don't want to mess up.

I got the camera today. Now I just have to learn how to use it.
I tried to take a pic, but he won't pose!
Maybe I will have one by tomarrow night. I have to get the software on my computer and figure out how to get them on here too.
Old dogs and new tricks... We'll see... :fun:

I just found fry(just born) in the 10g. hospital tank! Should I still put in the pimafix and melafix? I don't have anywhere else to put them right now. I have 3 so far.

As long as you don't overdose, the Pima/MelaFixs are pretty safe. Just follow the directions for the ailment you are treating. I have had very good success with them for septecema on fish. They might be sufficient to treat the cory's wounds. But I would not treat with two meds at once w/o very good cause.

For right now I will go just under the full dose to be sure. I still can't decide which one is having them.

Take the fish out the tank first and put into a bucket or something with some of the tank water. Switch off filter and heater and give the heater 15 minutes to cool down. Take the water level down to a few inches and remove everything. Now you can take the marbles out. You might have to raise the water level again as ive a feeling there will be a lot of muck under the marbles that will need syphoned away.
Before you put the new gravel in you will have to wash it thoroughly which is time consuming. In a bucket put 3 cupfulls of the gravel and run under the tap. Use your hand to move the gravel around and do that until the water runs clear. Add to the tank and do the same again. You should aim for no more than an inch in depth. Once the gravel is in, place your ornaments and plants and then carefully re fill the tank and switch on the filter and heater. The tank may be a little cloudy but it will settle in a day or so and once the temperature is right then put the fish back in. Your readings should be at 0 for ammonia, 0 for nitrite and whatever reading you have from the tap for nitrates.
With perfect water your fish should start to heal themselves. Test your water each day and do a 30% water change on day 4 and again on day 7. If stats are still looking good then if your filter is good enough then you need only do a water change once a week.
The mollies with the fluffy stuff in their mouths sounds like columnaris which is bacterial and lower temps will help ease that.
The ulcers are also part of the columaris bacteria Flavobacterium formerly known as Flexibacter.

Need a pic though to be sure its ulcers.

I'm back. My trip didn't go as well as I had hoped. I found the prime, maracyn-two, and tetracycline. No one had regular maracyn. I was told to get the tetracycline instead. I got home and started reading , and found that the are not the same. Now what?
I am about to try to get the program for the camera on here so I can load the pics. I got a few. :D
I will be back later.
Thanks for everything everyone!

I got the camera figured out. :S I got the program on my computer, and finally got the fish to smile. :D Now I can't get them on here. I'll be back...

It's impossible to tell just what kind of bacteria are making your fish sick without expensive lab work, so we usually treat them with a broad spectrum antibiotic that kills both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Tetracycline is one of these.

Maracyn is Erythromycin, which will treat gram-positive bacteria and Maracyn Two is Minocycline, which will help if your fish is infected with gram-negative bacteria. If you are going to use one, use the other. If not, the Tetracycline is better. Forget about using MelaFix or PimaFix. The time to use such mild products is long past.

A little salt in the water might help too, but aside from that, get the other medicines out of the water with water changes and charcoal in the filter before adding anything else. Do water changes during the medication period and be certain not to stop treatment until you are very sure they are all entirely well. This will help prevent any of the bacteria from mutating into a strain that is resistant to the meds you are using.

Good luck!

My fish seem to be better. Thanks to eveyone that helped.
I was going to let this thread die, but I started thinking. When others are looking for answeres like I was They might find the questions, and not the final answeres. I figured we should put the final answeres on here so it would all be in one place.
I never did figure out how to get the pictures on here, but I found one on another thread. Same white thing and even the same fish. It is in the cory section named My Bronze Cory's started by MHunt. Please look at the white thing right by the fin and post on here what that is. It seems to be something that all of them have, and it looks like the end of a worm when you add in the sores he had in the same place.
Someone please look at it and post the answere to what that is on here, as I still am unsure what exactly what that is.
For others reading this... I did what I was told, and it worked. I only lost 2 of the newest fry through all of it. They were very small! The bigger one is still alive and growing. All of the other fish are doing fine again.
Once again yall have saved my fish! Thanks!
:D

Ok, for how much it will help here's the pic ICEEGRL's talking about. As far as i am aware my cory's are healthy!

Ok look at the side fin by the gills... You can see something white. It is just barely above the base of the fin.
Can someone tell me what I am seeing? Is it part of the fin or what?
Thank you very much!
