Cory With Parasite Update

I would go with 2 1/2, this will give you the proper dosage. Many meds can be used a little stronger than recommended, Clout should be used more carefully.

I have a book on fish ailments I'll dig out to see if I can find anything on this particular parasite. The parasite could be causing the infection, but it sounds as if you have 2 seperate things going on here.

I agree tolak.
Is that clout ok for corys as you know there funny with parasite meds.
Increase aeration in the tank as it will be tough on the bottom dwellers.

Thank you. If you find anything let me know. I will be on and off between maintenance and checking on them until late.

I just got them a bubble bar. I will get it added.
Thanks for all info.
Any more would be greatly appreciated.

How fast can I lower temp?

Since the fish are already stressed from being sick, the slower the better. I would try to stretch it over a 24 hour peroid.

I have got it!! I know how to describe it. The worm or what ever it is looks like the very end of a plant root stuck in an open wound. There is no bleeding or anything. It is just raw looking.

will do. I am going to move my heater up some so I can get to it easier. Then I can adjust it just a little at a time without having to get much into the tank.
Thanks!

I am going to call to see if I can get my neice over here with her camera. I will be back in a little while.
Thanks ;)

Ok, good luck.

Hey. I'm back. She finally told me she will come tomarrow. She said she has a headache tonight.

I did a water change(65%) I still had some nitrites .4, and my nitrites are starting to go up more now 30.
Still now amonia though. I cleaned the marbles and stuff pretty good. I found white poop, and slimey white stringy stuff. I also found alot of white feather looking stuff. What might that be?
Any way it is cleaned and I put in the clout. Also I tried to get a look at the cory. I couldn't see anything this time, but I didn't want to stress him too much so I didn't get to look much.

There is no heavy breathing or flicking or anything else. Only the sudden darting then he calms back down.
He is not happy though. He has stopped playing with me.
His eyes look a little too open too. They aren't really big, but not normal.

You are doing fine. Just take it one step at a time. You have some good help on board. If you can get BioSpira it always helps me, if I get water quality trouble or think I might get it. Cleaning out the bottom will be a big help though.

I have done all I can tonight. My temp is down to 77 now. I am going for one more tonight. I started at 78.
All my water changes and cleaning done. Meds are added to all the tanks. I will start again in the morning.
I am going shopping in the morning to see what I can find in surrounding towns. If I can't find what I need I will order again.
These fish are about to cost me a fortune! They had better be glad I like them. :shifty:
Thanks everyone for all your help today. (every day)
I'll be back on when I get back from town. For now I am going to try to get some sleep for once. I am really tired. My body hurts and my mind is shot.
Good night... :*

Is your entire substrate composed of marbles? No sharp rocks or jagged edges like that? These might hurt the underside of the cories.

As for the feather looking stuff, it could be old fish food that has started to mold. Happens to us too. Just make sure you aren't over feedings. Can you cut down on the amount of food you give them temporarily too (like maybe 3/5 of what you normaly feed)? This should help the fish not produce as much waste and keep your nitrite down.

Do others think this a good idea?

I agree that the feathery stuff is probably, fungused food. It may be what has caused the water trouble. I would get rid of the marbles, unless they can be entirely cleaned regularly. They will work best in a Betta bowl that gets 100% water changes once a week, or as a few scattered around for effect. Food is hard to keep out of the cracks.

Yes, cut back on the food. Make sure it is consumed or taken out. I would find a substrate that is easier to keep clean. (Probably want to wait to make that change until the tank or at least the water is stable, Once the water quality is stable, the marbles can be removed a few at a time.) Right now the biggest issue is clean water. That will cut back on the bacterial load and any free swimming parasite that may be around.

Hi. I'm back. Thanks for the info. The marbles are very smooth, but I was thinking the same thing.
I bought new substrait while I was out. I don't like the way my tank looks so I figure when I finish medicating I could just change it out when I clean the tank. Can I not change it all at once?
I am changing from fake coral and marbles to very small black pebble with black back ground. I wanted white mixed in, but I can't find the white small enough. Maybe I will later. I am also adding more live plants.

I finally got to talk to the lady that actually runs the pet department. The two my sister got are cae. They will soon be rehomed I hope. They are going to take back the pleco. I have to get it well, and if I keep it till it gets a little bigger she will give me the higher price for it. It isn't hurting anything so I will probably do that.
I have to find someone to take the cae though.

The pleco and cae's look pretty good now, but my cory is worse. Now he just lays there. I have to look very hard to tell if he is alive. He isn't breathing hard or anything. It is like he is just sleeping alot. He has even stopped darting around. Is that good or bad? Do you think maybe he doesn't like the cooler temp?

My mollies are even looking better. You can't see anything on their mouths anymore, but they are still stretching their mouths and puckering so I know it isn't all gone yet. The small ones still have the faded spots. I can't see anything on them, but their color is faded in places. Will it come back? How do I know when to stop treating them?

Here is where I am now...
The pleco and cae are well.
The mollies(big) still have white stuff inside their mouths, but not on the outside. The grey mollie is turning dark around her gills.(under them) Two of the little ones still have the same faded spots in their color, but no more cotton stuff. The smallest one is white so I can't tell. I don't see anything on her.
The cory still has the open sores. I cant see anything in them any more, but he doesn't let me really let me look very much. His color has faded a little more, but is acting some better.
My water is good again. It finally got back right yesterday and still is.
How long should I keep treating with the clout? Should I change to something else at some point?
What should I do for the mollies?
I am going to get supplies in the morning, and I need to know what I may need to possibly get them well.
Thank you so much for all your help.
