alright, lets get this party started. i have my filter, cartridges, i have selected the fish to cycle (i dont have the time or money to waste on fishless and i have only been taught fish in) heater, and ill i need is some gravel. my filter is an aquaclear mini, not too great but i may get a new filter along the way. with the money i saved for a new filter for the 7g i can now use towards an emporer for my 30g! yay!

Ok if you want to go with fish in then thats your skiddy, but the "dont have the time or money waste on fishless" seems a bit contrived.
Fishless means no outlay for fish (that may die), no outlay for food just a bottle of ammonia that cost next to nothing & as for not having the time, fishless is far quicker.

Hmmm... something seems a bit wrong about that...

Time... maybe I can understand but the counter would be if you haven't got time to add 4ml of ammonia every so often what time will you have to water change when your fishes gills are burning from ammonia poisoning. You can be easily taught within a hour how to do a fishless cycle... though the money... maybe £1.49 for a bottle of Ammonia? Much cheaper than a whole load of dead fish and a ton of water treatment.

It may sound nit picky but for 700+ posts I'm confused how you don't know how to do a fishless cycle.

well, i really have only cycled a tank twice before, and honestly i have always thought the only way of cycling is fish-in until i got here. i have never lost a fish during a cycle, and treated everything very seriously and well. i really know pretty much nothing about cycling a tank in general, because i rarely do it in the first place. i have always thought that fish-in cycles were faster, but i guess that theory has been contradicted

alright, now that thats hopefully over, i have an update.
things are well, i added a dalmatian molly to increase pooping. both swordtail and mollly are well. when should i start testing? would now be a good time?
