Hello all, I know a lot of you will have answered this question before but I'm still not sure which compost to use when I set up my new tank, This will be my third Tank so I have a little bit of experience.

I'm going to take my time on this one and try and get it right first time. I don't intend to put fish in to it for 2/3 months after set up as I wont to plant it and get it established first.

This is why I need to start with the compost.

All help is gratefully received.

Mike, many thanks for your reply, Perhaps I should have explained a little better. I would like to do something along the lines of your tank,
I have made mistakes with the other tanks buy rushing, and then wishing I gone another way with the plant, rocks etc, so this time I'd like to landscape it a bit better before adding fish.
I have a picture in my head of how I would like the tank to look, and thought about composting under sand/gravel, I thought this would better for the plants I had in mind.
I can remember reading on this forum somewhere that you could use organic compost, but when I tried to find it I couldn't, so rather than guessing and hoping I got it right I thought I'd ask.
Once again Mike thank you.

no problem
what plants are you planning on putting in there? and whats your lighting going to be like are you going to be dosing ferts?

if your going for a high tech tank you can plants into compost but it depends on the plants your using weather it will benefit them a lot or not

have a read of my journal (link in sig) first few pages are what i did for a substrate although iv not gotten rid of that because i found the plants do just as well without it (i does ferts)
