Try to get a lot more tank decorations and plants, it looks sorta bare right now in that area. Without a doubt they're going to be a pesky when they're breeding, and although firemouths are a tad more relaxed than some other cichlids, they're still territorial. And like all cichlids (Including angels!) they only get worse when they breed. Make sure to get a lot of plants, driftwood, and caves.

It's good to see you're using sand, though, firemouths do love to dig!

If you go with live plants, get them all anchored down with rock or driftwood, too. the firemouths might uproot them otherwise.

i do actually have 2 caves and bogwood but not there :) unfortunately my rainbow shark just ate one of the small angels :(

Sorry to hear that. He might not be good to have in a tank with breeding fish, if that's the case.

You'll need more caves and driftwood, and more plants to cover the back. you've got a lot of angels and 2 firemouths who might breed, and if they do, the angels may been seen as a threat, they'll need more places to hide than just 1 cave. Not to mention the rainbow shark who also might claim a cave or two as his own.

Agreed but the problem is its not my fish
Give it back to whoever it belongs to asap, then. If I was caring for anyone elses fish and it started killing mine, that thing would be out of my tank before it tried to kill again. Keep a close eye on your angels.

unfortunately it was causing a masacre in his tank. and it was too small. my other friend can take them but his kribs just layed eggs so at the end of that endeavor he can take them

If it was massacring his tank, why would you put it in yours? Ask your friend if you can bring it back to the LFS or find somebody online to take it. Neither of you guys have a tank setup good for housing an aggressive catfish.

True, though the strange part was that that was the only stray angel in the shoal, and he tends not to attack shoals. I will hang on a bit longer to see if my friend can take it but if there is more trouble then I wiLl return him. Btw just wanted to say my angels are refusing tubifex, why?

Oh And does any1 know why firemouth dig? My firemouths don't stop digging and digging, I heard its normal but why on earth would they disg on a regular basis!?!?!

That about sums it up. If my firemouth isn't sleeping or eating, he's digging holes. He has a big pile in front of a piece of plastic driftwood where he piles all the sand, it's about 5 inches tall now. And the subtrate leveled is only about 2 inchs deep.
