Collegefish's Fishless Cycle (Updated Photos And Video June 04)

Have 5 black neons and 5 cardinals in the tank now.

The 5 cardinals seem to like staying at the rear of the tank and swimming against the current instead of going anywhere else.

I fed them before I left on Friday, they'll be fed again tomorrow. Is that too long without food? It only happens on bank holiday weekends, otherwise its friday till monday morning.

fish can go days without food, make sure you feed them normal amounts and dont "treat" them to more prior to leaving them for a few days, you think you are being kind, but its more likely to have the opposite effect.

Hi,

Little update -

Have 5 cardinals and 5 black neons with hopefully 4 corys coming on Monday.

Water is still great, no casualties.

Bought a magnet cleaner and have a gravel vacuum now. Also have a few small terracotta pots for the corys.

I'm keeping an eye on the plants and the water, nothing noticeable as of yet.

Here's a recent video and some (poor quality) photos;

corys wont really use terracota pots, with the relatively limited space you have in there i would leave them out and provide more surface area on the substrate for them to scavenge :) looking good matey.

Thanks tizer, I've put in the two smallest pots but I think I may take one out, the opening of the pot is about 6cm in diameter and I've sunk it into the gravel. Will the gravel be okay for small corys (sterbai/false julii) or do they prefer sand?

Everything I've seen says sand is preferable for cories. I just installed sand into my tank last night.

New false julii cories, hiding under the heater. Need to get the gravel cleaner under there! Hopefully the garras that are coming will clean it up too.

Had two delivered will have another three on tuesday and two panda garras.

I've noticed a weird type of jelly / algae on one of the plants. I noticed today one of the corys eating away at it. I presume this stuff is normal and fine to eat and be present in the tank?

I don't think the fish eat stuff that is bad for them - unlike us! :lol:
