What are some freshwater fish that will be fine at room temperature (no heaters)?

Bloodfin Tetra (Aphyocharax anisitsi) would be fine in most homes, providing the temp stays at 18C or more. Please note I do not mean Glass Bloodfin Tetra (Prionobrama filigera), which at least in the UK near me are far more common than "true" Bloodfins.

White cloud mountain minnows, variatus platys do ok in unheated tanks

Most beta's will be fine in cooler water, white clouds are also a good choice in a shoal. If you want a splash of colour siamese fighters tolerate lower temps as long as there is not too much of a fluctuation. khooli loach are another option for something abit different

Bettas are tropical & do not do well in low temperatures, they should be kept no less than around 24c Kuhlis also do best no lower than 24c

+1 Bettas need to be at a pretty high temp (around 78 deg. F/26 deg. C ish)

Bitterling (up to 9cm) fish are pretty cool, Pumpkin Seed (can get quite big though, maybe about 20cm) fish :) stuff like that. Hope you find what you're looking for! :good:

For me, Pygmy Sunfish are one of the coolest cold freshwater fish. These get to about 37mm long.

For the record, I'm pretty sure Siamese Fighters ARE Bettas

White Cloud Mountain Minnows are brilliant little fish. A few of the barb species do well in cooler waters too so i have read.

Most of the group of livebearers called goodeids are fine at room temperature. I love some of mine but others should not be kept in community tanks. they just play a bit too rough for a peaceful community tank. Other choices are few but include most cories and don't forget the white cloud mountain minnows. They are as much cold water as a typical goldfish would be.

A few species that would do well at typical room temperature (far from exhaustive)...
Leopard/Zebra Danios (in a surprisingly lengthy tank for their size)
WCMM
Red or Rainbow Shiners
Rosy Barbs
Redline Torpedo Barbs (in 4-foot plus)
Chineese (Green) Barbs
Paradise Fish
Peppered or 3-lined Corydoras
Variatus Platy
Ilyodon furcidens
