will coconut shells effect the water quality in any way, i just want a small one halved with riccia on the top

if u want to be sure, just put it in a bucket of boiling hot water.

just one half of a coconut shell shouldn't do anything to your tank stats
you might get a tiny amount of tannings released from it but i never have - i have 2 halves in all but one of my tanks

I have several large coconuts in my tank, halves in others and never have they done anything to the water, never leeched tannins either, just make sure you boil it clean and it will be fine.
