currently i have two hydor co2 bottles (the one you mix you mix your own)

anyway i was thinking about getting a proper system now

i seen a couple on ebay (im sure ive seen somepeople deal with him before)

1) i was wondering weather i should spend the extra £12 and get one of those light switches (when lights go off it stops the co2)

2) how long would a 500g bottle last on a 43 gallon tank? with and without the above sensor

3) what the difference between these two? (except the price) i expect the top one is

thanks :good:

The cheaper one comes with a 'passive ' co2 reactor and the dearer one comes with a co2 reactor... An online translator provided me with this translation of the paragraph describing the co2 reactor

Our CO2-Aktiv-Druckreaktor is the uncompromising solution with regard to effect degree and guarantees in slight place requirement a continuous maximal enrichment of the aquariums water with CO2 in basin to a volume until 1000 l.s. The pressure reactor is operated with the filter outflow or an additional pump, a part of the streaming out water will branch off led over an adjustable into the reactor where it rewinds the aufwärtsstrebende CO2-Gas in the permanent against current and enables so highest CO2-Anreicherung of the aquariums water.

Sounds just like myDennerle cyclo turbo 500 reactor

Yeah... most of the gear these German sellers sell appears to be of good quality according to other people on here, thouugh I don't know if anyone has bought from that perticular guy, others have bought from aquamas (on ebay.de) It all seems good value 'though getting the bottle refilled in the UK could be a problem... Depends where you live, If your lucky enough to be near somewhere like wildwoods, you'll be fine as they will fill anything, whereas most other shops including Maidenhead Aq.s will usually only fill JBL, even though the others are exactly the same... I had this problem with my Dennerle 500g bottle and decided to just go for 2L fire extinguisher with the Dennerle cylinder as reserve for when I need to take the extinguisher to be recharged.

Dave.

ive got no problems about filling up then :) as im about 40 mins drive from there and go there every year at least once or twice.

do you have any idea how long the 500g bottle will last (is the bottle size not measured in litres then?)

thanks

Not from personal experience, no. However, Themuleous is selling 2 JBL cylinders on the BUY/SELL forum and I think he says they lasted him 4/5 months each at 1/2 bubbles per second (I think, best check!).

Dave

Sorry, didn't respond to the end of your post then re: Liters/grammes.... Litres for extinguishers and grammes for other cylinders, I think (anybody know for sure, I'm curious?), because extinguishers are filled with vapour and the cylinders such as you are propsing to buy, are filled with liquid CO2. Which leads me to.... If you have them filled at Wildwoods, do you get vapour or liquid? (anybody) I have read on here I think about the 500g cylinders having to be frozen to allow you to put 500g in to them(?) Anybody know for sure? (Sorry for hijacking your thread!) Clarify please!

not a problem i will need to know all the ins and out for when i refill aswell

I was wondering the same thing. SO let me know what you decided.

Also you could buy the 95 euro kit plus the other reactor seperatly for 2.50 more than the more expensive kit. Then you can find out which is better yourself.

So the question is do you spend a bit more money and get a kit with a solenoid?

In a word no, solenoids are very useful but they are not by any means essential. Solenoids are also fairly cheap, (less than 20quid) so you can always add one later if you find you want/need one. But for starting out with CO2 I wouldn't bother. I didn't when I first set up a pressurized kit and am only getting one now after over a year.

Guess the only reason for getting one is if you have a very large tank, which i will need lots of CO2 to get the right level, in which case being able to turn it off at night will mean you dont waste any.

I will however say the diffuser you get with that kit looks wise is rubbish, it'll stick out like a sore thumb!

As Davver says getting the cylinders refilled is the biggest problems with getting this German equipment, but if you have a solution to that then go for it. For people in the UK or not near a suitable refill source, I wouldn't get a kit, just get a reg from one of the the German sellers and then a JBL cylinder which are easy to refill.

Re how long it lasts, mine lasts around 2/3 months at bubble per second, which you could be increase to 4/5 months with a solenoid. Well that was until I switched to a 12lb welding cylinder, this baby will last me years, before needing a refill.

Sam

PS and yes I am selling two 500g cylinders if anyone is interested?
