Cleaning Sand

how do i go about cleaning the poop and general dirt that has settled on top of my sand?

do i just give it a swish so it gets sucked up by the filter??

When doing a water change, just fan it with your hand suck up the waste

get yourself a gravel vac - when you prime it you will see the sand slowly coming up the tube, before it hits the pipe or top end of the vac, release it.
