Cleaning Filter Pads.

its a fact that sponges in a filter don't hold as much beneficial bacteria as noodles or balls or what ever biological media your using. i'm in the process of cleaning my sponges in my fx5 and i know your suppose to clean them tank water but it just works sooo much easier when you can blast them with water from the tap. so basically i think will be ok cleaning my sponges with tap water so long as i leave my biological media in the filter. my fx5 is currently brimmed in each compartment with biological media so i think i will be ok, but i just wanted to hear your views.

I admit I blast the sponge section in my fluval 405 with tap water, but it is used on the turtle tank and there is no other way to clean out the sponges, trying to do it in tank water is impossible because of the amount of mess. My other filters I usually clean out the filter wool under the tap but not the bio or sponges.

Its no different than replacing 1/3 of the media, so I dont see a problem with it.

yeah well thanks guys! if i'm honest i was expecting to get blasted but its good to see it is actually ok.
