Just me but I'd recomend a severum for that tank  They are hardier and less skittish than discus generally, they get about 8" and are pretty peaceful (unless they happen to spawn or you get a bad apple) They also get to a decent size and can live in a 55g :)

The one employee of my lfs that I trust put a BGK in her cichlid tank. Someone special ordered the BGK and then must have changed his mind and never came to get it. They were keeping it in a 20gallon (it was still small). After a while of no one buying it she decided it needed to go into a bigger tank and decided to try it in her cichlid tank. She told me that its doing just fine, she just gave it a few different caves to hide in and the cichlid haven't bothered it.

-just one success story, I'm not trying to tell you to try it, would hate to think of a BGK getting ripped up.

good question! I'm still thinking about discus or angels. I'm off to a new lfs tomorrow to look at selection and prices. i guess there the best around so i may pick one or two up.

i put my guppies in the new 55 just a fue days ago. i tried to cycle the tank W/O fish but it think i have too many plants to actually get an ammonia reading. i figured that the black sand wold show off there colors better anyhow and they cold handle it if the tank had a small spike. after I'm sure its done building bacteria i might move fish/plants around a bit more.

not yet. i wold have but i keep geting new stuff in line to put in there and i think "im just going to wait till i get this......" i will have some wednesday when the power compact lights get here. 4x65 :D
i was at my LFS today and saw they had cardnals for $1 each so i picked up 12.... and if i dont see any ammonia by the time the compacts get here im puting them in...... i also picked up a true honey gourami and a new red snakeskin guppy.

i decided to go with angels after seeing how nice they where. the LFS has a bunch of baby angels and there $2 each so i think next week im going to go for it and buy 3-5 of them.

im gonna need another tank soon

hows your betas doing amber?

Bettas are doing fine :) Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. I cant get on here much. Been having a lot of problems with my back and sitting in this chair does not help because its really hard. I need to get a nice computer chair. Anyways I think angels are a good pick. Cant wait to see your pics when the tanks done :D
