Cichlid Tanks

i was looking on google about shelldwellers and found this guy that set up a 125 gallon and attached pieces of slate to the back walls and put shells on there so that there would be different levels for each species of shelldwellers. i think he had about 5-6 different species in there. i think that would be really cool. i like multis, bichardis, and occelates a lot. if you go to google and type in "shell dweller fish" there will be a link that says "the ultimate shell dweller tank. thats where the 125 gallon thing is.

If you plan on breeding then you are best keeping a species only tank.
It was Ocellatus that I kep with my Multis and I wouldn't do it again. Ocellatus can be very aggressive and shouldn't be kept with other shelldwellers. I started out with 2 males and 2 females but the dominant male bullied the other male so I removed the one that was being bullied. The remaining male then bullied one of the females so I had to remove her too.
I thought after that, I'd cracked it as the remaining pair started to breed. All was going well for 5 days and then I noticed the male had chased the female behind the filter and wouldn't let her anywhere near her shell. Everytime she came out from behind the filter, he attacked her so I had to take them back to the lfs.
I also found that they can give you one hell of a nip when you put your hand in the tank!

maybe i wont go for them. i will probably just set up a 15 gallon sometime and put some bichardis in it. my brother has a 15 gallon that he is putting a bearded dragon in while he finds homes for his livebearers in his 30, then i will probably take his 15 so hopefully everything will work out 8) 8) 8)

The Brichardi are a beautiful fish and pretty easy to breed, so I think you've made a good choice.
Good luck with whatever you decide and be sure to keep us posted! ;)

i will definitely keep you posted stang if i get them. i will probably get them this summer or when school starts for me which is the beginning of september :good: since my brother is begging so much it might be sooner. how long does it take a bearded dragon to outgrow a 15 gallon?

Wish I knew the answer to that.

will just have to get grahamsokel over here :shout: :shout: :shout: lol.
where are you when i need you grahamsokel?

A bearded dragon should have a minimum 55 gallon tank, a 75gallon would be best... it'll probably out grow the 30gallon tank within 6 months... Remember, beardies eat fruits and veggies too although no apples as it slows their metabalisim...

they arent  i thought that the scientific name neolamporlogus bichardi meant that they were shelldwellers. arent most neolamprologus shelldwellers? i really like them. nice tank stang. :good: when im older im probably going to set up a 100 gallon tanganyika tank with all kinds of shelldwellers. does anyone know about the blue tanganyika killifish?

Im onli 14 so im always thinking about that too m8!
