Just wanted to post this as I thought this was neat to watch. Everyone knows that cichlids are aggressive (well most are) and I consolidated some tanks to make my life easier (work was causing me to miss maintanance) and this video shows dominance being established in my consolodated Jack/GT tank. Thought it was neat to watch and wanted to share it. Don't worry. the situation is being closely monitored.

Actually they are still at it, so now it whether I let them continue to try to establish. Everything that I read indictes that they can and will live peacefully together but I think mine may be set in their ways and lack the ability to like each other.

Does anyone know how long this could last? How long should I give it before I separate them again. Its been 12 hours and while no one has gotten hurt, the fact that they have liplocked for the past 12 hours makes me nervous.

Just a quick update.

Well its been 4 days since the Jacks and GTs moved in together. The first 12-24 were rough. Now that heirarchy is established, and wounds are healing (yes there was some slight facial damage done, but I m giving them treatment for it) the tank has been harmonious. The females like to chill together, and the males seem to swim side-by side watching over the tank.
