I've been wondering, why do people only have these together, can you not add other fish to the tank.

What is this about.

For example a Malawi and mollies.

Apologise if this is a silly question but haven't really done any ready on it yet, is it all about plants and those fish or am I really wrong.

African Rift Valley cichlids tend to be very boisterous, and need to be in the company of likewise boisterous fish. Therefore, the experienced Malawi keepers recommend that you don't mix'n'match these fish, for the benefit of both the Malawis and the other fish.

People do, very often, have other types of cichlid (ie South American, Central American, other African and indeed there are some Asian Cichlids) in with non-cichlids, although you have to be careful about what goes with what.

Just live the colours of cichlids and haven't seen much colour wise that matches them for my new set up.
