Changing Sand To Sand...

Small probably not dilema..wish to change from coarse aquatic sand to play sand as I think this will benefit my small cories. The only thing is how to go about it. The tank has approximately 20-30 fish and I have 2 buckets.

I was thinking I could use my new powerful siphon to get alot of the coarse sand out (there is about a 2 inch layer currently get it down to 1/2inch) and then apply the freshly washed play sand ontop with a cup smoothly without having to uproot all the plants and also take all the fish out. How does this plan sound? am I thinking awkwardly?

That plan sounds ok as long as you dont mind the 2 types of sand mixing together, when you add the play sand, i used an old tetramin fishfood pot, put the sand in, do the lid up, place at bottom and undo lid, that way sand wont go all over the tank, also be a good idea to turn filter off while adding the new sand so theres no current.

could you not syphon the new sand into the tank?

use toys r us playsand will not cloud your tank up at all and no washing

Thanks so much guys, so not moving the fish sounds ideal? Definately will turn filters off and dont want that packing up! Ohhh good thinking on siphoning in too or the fish pot what would I do without you guys to keep me on track
