Changing From Gravel To Sand.

hey,
just wondering how i would do it.....
i have 6 platy's - well 5 at the moment as 1 is pregnant and in fry tank- and 2 algae eaters- which i am going to give away, and 1 angel- which i am selling as too big now-
So i will be left with 5 platy's in the tank when i change.
I will clean the sand very well and all that, but was just wondering if i would have to take the fish out and then the gravel and then add the sand....or ?

Up to you.

You could use a big net to scoop out the stones and then use a jug with the sand you cleaned VERY well, just pour it in close to the bottom.

or just catch them in a bucket and start from scratch... water might be a bit cloudy for an hour or so after.

(or a week if you didn't clean the sand very well >.>)

I'd take the fish out and store them in a bucket with your heater in, IMO less stressful for those fish .

Scoop the gravel out the tank, rince the tank out using just water. Wash your sand VERY well like the OP said or you could end up with cloudy water for quite some time and no one wants that .

if i start from scratch....does that mean with new water?

also....is there any black sand alright for cory's?

Any colour sand is fine with corys, I would keep the same water.
