What filter do you have, model, type, name?

Also, what filter media have you been told to change?

Only chemical and floss medias need regular replacement. Everything else will run untill it is deformed and allowing media by-pass due to gaps, or untill the media literaly falls appart, whichever comes first ;)

All the best

chnaging your filter media that often is aload of rubbish. IMO you should only clean filter media when your filter becomes really blocked and only trickles water out. And you should only change your filter media when it has really had its day like falling apart! and when you do you should never change all the media at once change like a quarter of it. When you wash your filter media always wash it with tank water never use tap water as this contains chlorine which will kill your bacteria. only wash the media when the filter becomes fairly blocked.

the filter is a tetratec easycrystal filterbox 300, its just the one that came with the tank

inside is tetra tec filter pack c 250/300 again what came with it and also a black sponge type thing

i have been told to change the filter pack bit once a month and just rinse the black one out in the old water when i do a water change
hope that helps

Ive never had much experince with a easycrystal filterbox 300 but isnt there a way of washing it rather than changing it. Theres defo no need to change it until your tank has fully matured.

Tom, unless you feel the need for a charcoal filter, the cartridge probably only needs rinsing out like the sponge. Most of that type of cartridge has a small amount of carbon in it that would need to be replaced if you are using the filter to remove odors or medication. Otherwise, it can be rinsed out just like the sponge and re-used.
