I had another fish hitch a ride with a glo fish I bought... no clue what the lil "stole away" is.

I bought a glo-fish to add some color to my tank. Here is who I pretty sure is a female glo-fish.

When I got home, and check the bag, there were two fish in there instead of one. Since it was quite drive I didn't go back. Later on when I was there, I talked to the owner and offered to pay, he said don't worry bout it :) I looked in the tanks and could not find anything similar. I asked the guy about what it may have been, he had no clue.

I was hoping I could get some help here identify what the fish is :) It has the neon colors in spots, it's like a glo fish crossed with a guppy or tetra??? I really have no clue.

Thanks so much for your help!

It's either an endler's livebearer or a guppy/endler hybrid.

It's male and would prefer to be in a small group as they are fairly social fish. However, if you do get more stick to more males as the females will cause lots and LOTS of breeding. Seriously, they put rabbits to shame. Not a good thing unless you have lots of big tanks and some way of selling/rehoming the young adults.

The glo-fish (zebra danio) is a shoaling fish and should be kept in a group of 6 or more in a tank that is an absolute minimum of 10 gallons, ideally closer to 20 as they are very active fish. Keeping them on their own is not good for them - they get stressed, can get aggressive towards other fish and will often hide away. Sometimes they even stop eating or get stress related sicknesses. Get it some friends!

Out of interest, what size tank do you have and what are you keeping the glo-fish with?

Thanks so much for your reply! Those look similar.

I have a 55 gallon that has been running for some time for my small koi. The koi have grown up large enough to be added to the pond. So I started decorating the 55 gallon since it was fish less. I have a mix variety of tetras that these two school with. The tank was set up around my black ghost knife fish. Sand bottom, planted, lots of driftwood and rock for numerous hiding spots. There are a few kuhli loaches too. I'm running two Penguin 350's, so bout 700gph.

Coolio. Be ready to move the BGK along when it gets big, as they can reach well over a foot (12") and would need a 6 foot tank as a full grown adult. Just warnin' ya.

Get the glofish some more friends (at least 5 more), either glofish or regular zebra danios, and get a handful more of the male endlers if you can.

Sounds lik a great tank, just remember about how big the BGK can get and remember that the bigger he gets, the more likely he is to snack on your small fish. Oh, and remember to test your water regularly (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate)!

he's also been chasing around my glo-fish, is it possible for them to try and cross bred?

Yes, the BGK is only 4 inches now, as he gets larger, he will be moved up, that's for sure :) I'll pick up some more glo fish, the lil green ones and a neat mix to the bloodfin and rummy nose tetra.

thanks!
