Can I Have An Angel Fish?

Quote: I have about 2" of gravel on the bottom. I don't get why people say 13" - 15" height of water isn't enough for a fish 5" tall including finnage. Maybe it would be better to have more height but surely not essential? Also, can't see them getting any bigger as I've never seen bigger angels than mine in lfs or public aquarium tanks. Think Altums get bigger don't they?

A 5" angel either isn't fully grown or has been stunted, angels don't just grow to 5"

You could expect your angels to easily reach 7" in height in the correct environment, your tanks is most likely to only have about 12" height of actual water meaning the fish only has 5" worth of space the move up and down once fully grown, thats less space than a 15cm ruler which isnt enough or fair on the angel.

The recommended depth for angels is a minimum 18" tank depth meaning they will have at least 15-16" worth of actual water, although most dedicated angel keepers will keep angels in 24" deep tanks.

I'm confused. In your earlier post you claimed that the fish you had were 5inch tall, you have been back and edited your post to say that they are no longer 5inch but now 15inch why ?? Your tank you say is 15inch tall so the fish can't possibly be.

I would never keep them in a 100L ive kept them in a 36x12x18 tank and will never do it again. Evan at 5-6" they looked to big for the tank and just didnt seem to have enough room. IMO you need at least 18" of water so you will need about a 22" tall tank by the time you add substrate and leave a gap between the top of the tank.

I wasn't having a dig at you. Was confused as yesterday he said the fish were 5inch today he has edited it and now his fish are 15inch. I'm a bit not sure what to say to him as he say's his tank is only 15inch tall. Not sure where to go with this one now. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Where does it say the fish are 15" tall? Im not meaning your not telling the truth its just i cant see it. angels wont get 15" especially not in a tank thats only 15" tall

How tall is the tank, as Angels need a tall tank 18" minimum.

Mine's only 15" tall and they're fine though.

APOLOGIES ON A MEGA SCALE !!!!!!!! read that completely incorrectly !!!! I thought he was talking about the size of the fish !!! had me totally confused. Will put my eyes in before responding to comments posted. Truly sorry.

i read somewhere that if angels don't have a min. of 18" height in a tank, their ventrals can be damaged. Would you be ok with a fish being damaged, because you feel a tank height is non-essential?

The angels are about 5-6" tall but haven't measured them. The tank's 15" tall. Sorry the post could be read two way, bit ambiguous.

Well this thread caused some debate haha

I don't think i will bother then, Just fancied something attractive in there to catch the eye.

What about a type of dwarf cichlid like apisto, rainbow cichlid, checkerboard chcild or ram

Are they placid enough for a community tank? My stocking is below....

I worry about the male guppies.
