I'm toying with the idea of getting a single Angel fish to add to my set up. (stocking below). 100 litre tank.

I have read that aquarium bred specimens do not require such acidic Ph levels. The water is hard where i live but i have heard of people in my area keeping them.

My aquarium is moderatly planted, but i am planning on changing to heavily planted in the next few weeks.

What are your opinions of an angel fish in my setup?

I would be slightly dubious depending on the size of the male guppies you have, but all the other tank mates would be perfectly fine.
In terms of water quality, if you can find them in your LFS, they should be fine in your tank as well.

Really? for a single angel? hmmm i thought people kept them in smaller tanks than this. Or is this bad practice. I'm not really too great with this species, never kept cichlids before

I think it would be fine. I have 2 large marble angels in a 3ft tank which I believe is 110 litres. Was given them small and they've grown big in a year and are just fine. They eat like horses and are always first to the food.

How tall is the tank, as Angels need a tall tank 18" minimum.

Unless your tank has no gravel or sand (i.e. a bare bottom tank), there is less than 15" of water depth in a tank 36"x15"x12", especially when taking account of the maximum fill line on aquaria ;)

I have about 2" of gravel on the bottom. I don't get why people say 13" - 15" height of water isn't enough for a fish 5" tall including finnage. Maybe it would be better to have more height but surely not essential? Also, can't see them getting any bigger as I've never seen bigger angels than mine in lfs or public aquarium tanks. Think Altums get bigger don't they?

Apparently Angels get "stunted" in tanks with a water depth less than 18", in that they lose that classical triangular shape.

in one of my perivious i had a black angel from a very small size in a 120 Litre tank it it grew big but there was still loads of room i think 100 litres is fine for one i would go for it

Well mine are the classic triangular shape still

They may be now as they are only 5inch tall. Angels can grow up to 16inch in height and 6inch in diameter. Apparently from what i've read, stunting their growth in an undersized tank is very painful to them. Just because they can't tell you they are suffering doesn't mean they aren't. Angels need a big tank. Sorry.
