I have a 55 gallon planted aquarium with discus and i was wondering what algae eaters go good with discus. I had a Siamese algae eater but it started to suck on the discus so i had to get rid of it. I am planning on getting amano shrimp but could anyone recommend a good algae eater.

What about the Hillstream Loach? They are great algae eaters and very interesting to look at. Very good at cleaning algae off the glass and smooth rocks. Can go with discus. Size varies according to the type. 1.5-4 inches long.

Hillstream loaches require very cool temperatures something like 18-22 degrees where as discus need much higher

Depends on which one. As long as the oxygenation is high, they do well in warmer temperatures.

My hillstream loach does fine with temperatures of 24-26 :D

you have to be careful with what you put in with Discus as a lot of this take a fancy to the slime coat.

Hillstream loaches won't do very well at temps of a Discus.

For long has it been alive in that tank? Alive so far doesn't mean thriving long term.

Go with bristlenose plecos. They are safe with discus and plants and will do fine at the temps and pH/KH.

There was a post on here recently of someone putting zebra nerites in a discus tank, and them doing a wonderful job of cleaning the algae...
