Can Anyone Identify What This Fish Is !

I have attached a photo of a fish that we have been given, with a tank,

I need to know what this fish is and also if it can go into our 240 Litre Tropical Community Fish Tank.

Looks like a pangasius catfish and they get absolutely huge. Alot of fish stores say they only get to be around a foot and can be kept in a tank around 55 gallons but this fish can easily reach 40" in the wild. I would advise against keeping one altogether.

i was going to say catfish as well... it is also a predatory fish...

I concur; definitely one of the Pangasius species; will grow to around three or four feet, or even larger, depending on the exact species. They're also a shoaling fish, and need brackish water as they near maturity.

I would steer well clear, if I were you.

Let the fool who bought it without reasearching them deal with the problem; there's no need for you to get lumbered with it!

(and I don't mean that nastily just, well, you know, what are you going to do with a three foot long fish? You'd need a heck of a lot bigger than a 240l for that!)

100% right - leave well alone gets huge 40 inches is actually one of the medium sized species some make it to 6 foot.

I tell you what the Scooby Doo Mystery Van in the background fills me with a dreadful feeling this fish is already in a tiny tiny tank...
