Hi all! I have this lovely gourami in my tank, but I was wondering what is he?

Am pretty sure it might a variant of a Chocolate Gourami but which am not certain.

Due to the spots on tail it reminds me of a male Vallant's or maybe Vallantin Chocolate Gourami.

Something like that but not 100% on that though.

Looks like a Gold gourami, grows to about 18"   (nah just kidding about 6") :p

Is he a different colour variant of the gold gourami? The gold I have (have a couple gouramis) is just one colour really?!

Gold Gourami might actually be it due to the markings on the body, and the darker colouring in pic, might be in shaded area, thats really whats was putting me off

No he really is that dark :)

Does he ever get lighter in those areas?

I'd say a 3spot variant as well, though I was just assuming all of that yellow noise was the cameras white balance being crap.

You are correct in the gender.

Don't they get very dark when stressed out? Or at least that's what I had thought, but I don't know anywhere near as much as the others above. I was also thinking it's a golden gourami. >.<

When they're stressed they become pale. When they're aroused/pissed off they become black.

Ooh, gotcha, thanks! I was thinking stressed as usually at the LFS they're a bit black, and chasing each other. But the other makes much more sense :)

Do an image search see if anything convinces you, I only saw a load on Friday at my LFS that's what I'm basing my ID on :)

They were probably pissed off trying to establish territories.
