Hi i finally bought myself a Pearl gourami male, had one years ago and love these fish. He's in with my congo tetra, but im wondering do I need to buy him a couple of females?

If the tank is big enough and you have plenty of floating plants you could buy a female to go with him but it's not essential

If one of the females you buy turns out to be a late blooming male, things can get very ugly fast.

I've noticed that a single pearl gourami will be doing just fine... But of course, if you feel sad about him being alone, a female could be added. But be aware of it that sometimes a female pearl gourami can ignore a male or even attack him if she doesn't like him. It will always be a matter of trying if they'll suit up nicely.
