can anyone identify these for me pls

Dont know if this is exactly the right place to put this, but for some reason it says i dont have permission to start a topic elsewhere, but anyway. I bought 3 of these fish a couple of days ago from my LFS, which is soon to close down .

They were in a tank with gouramis, but when i asked for them the man said that they weren't gouramis, and i didnt quite catch what he said they were. Anyway, i cant find them in any books. They are a reddish colour, with grey/green on the top and bottom, with blue horizontal spots running from under their eyes down to the tail. Sorry about the photos but they kept moving lol

Im not sure on them either although they do look rather gourami-like, maybe you will have more luck with answers to your fish indentification if you post this is the gourami section of the forum?

ohwell maybe someone else may know. I seem to have a funny felling that their name begins with a H, dont know if that helps.

i think the jewel cichlid is probably it- especially the bit about digging in the substrate- seems to have a more pointed mouth tho, and mine are only a few cm long at the moment, so im presuming that they'll get a lot bigger

at the moment i would say that their only a few cms, maybe 5cms. i have 3 of them as the shop was virtually giving them away. One of them seems to be much redder thean the other two, which are duller and greyer- could this be diffrences in sexes? they seem to have a good temperement and get on with other fish.

Looks like a jewel cichlid to me. LOL, looks nothing like a gourami...

thanks for the help everone, hopefully thats what they are so I can find out more about them. Will try to get better pics if helps make a better judgement.
