Call Me The Babysitter

MY Fish are not sick nor dying! Plus no one else would take care of her fish but me.

FBT, is it the case that you get to go to her house and take care of her fish there or does she have to bring them over to your house and you take care of them in your home?

Will you have to do any water changes?

Does your friend have any testing kits of her own?

Good luck babysitting.

I have to do water changes and no test kit of her own. The Bettas live with me for 2 weeks so I am doing one water change.

does she have filters for her tanks?

just curious, she must have all her bettas in different aquariums right? what size are they? did she leave you with enough chemicals to condition the water for her fish during water changes or will you have to buy some?

how often do you plan to do the water changes for each of her fish?

how often will you feed her fish as well?

you're going to be very busy!!!!! :fun:

She has them in less than one gallons. But her fish will be fed like mine twice a day. A water change every week. And all she left me was some fish food.

FBT Girl, if the tanks are unfiltered then you are best doing 30-40% water changes every couple of days. Cut the feeding down to once a day as they will be fine with that.

okay just trying to help you here.

1. you'll have to do more water changes than just 1 per week fbtgirl because of the small tank. you may want to do it every other day if not on a daily basis.

2. i would recommend that if you are not changing the water on a daily or every other day basis, just feed them once per day. is the food she left you pellets or flakes?

3. you will need stress coat and stresszyme or betta bubbles or some type of water dechlorinated and conditioner when you do the water changes each time. do you have enough of those chemicals to get you by two weeks worth of water changes? which if you are to change the water every other day that would be like 7-8 water changes per tank. not including yours.

****

do you think you can do this?

i know you can do it.

also be very careful of the following:

water temperature:

also you have to be very careful about the water temperature when you do the water change. make sure it's not super cold and that it's not hot either. it's important to have the water temperature almost, if not exactly the same, as the water temperature that they are swimming in.

if the temperature is way too cold or way too warm, the bettas will not be happy. and some can even die.

******

how much to feed:

if you have pellet food, just give them 4-5 pellets per day at one time. usually they will eat it all up right then and there. but if you see some pellets or flakes hanging around the surface after about 10 minutes, get it out.

******

water changes:

okay i hope you understood me and stang about the water changes. it will be very important to do them at least every other day fbtgirl!

i just want to make sure you know that you have to prepare the new water you are putting into the tank first before you put it in. you have to dechlorinate and condition it. if you are worried about the temperature of the water, just let it sit in a pitcher for about an hour so that it can get to room temperature which is what your tanks all should be about anyways. once the conditioned water is room temperature, you can pour it in the tank for your betta.

okay, please let us know if you have any questions as we want you to have a successful babysitting experience.

I think a little bit of support would be the order of the day for FBT, and thankfully she is belatedly getting it on this thread. I admire her conviction to carry on posting actually, she is always very polite, even when others are not.

From her posts she's willing to learn from her mistakes.

Garethusa, that's a great post with plenty of detail! I'm sure FTB Girl finds this far more helpful than other posts.

If it helps since you'll hafta do so many water changes, why dont you take an empty gallon bottle (milk's what i use) rinse it out good, and keep your pre-declorinated water in it. Then, you can set it up overnight and viola! I keep a 1 gallon pre-declorinated (lightly salted, but only because of my mollies) in my room with my change cup so i can do a 20% water change every 3 days. (w/ my 5 gal of course)

So...what i'm attempting to say is keep your water ready in bottles (cannot stress enough to CLEAN them. Warm water, lots of soap...i killed a few fish without cleaning these things. Water a la milk is not good for fish :X ). Then you can just change the water, re-set the bottle, and be ready to go for next time. Infact, that might help you out alot with your female bettas.

Best of luck to you!!! <3

i kno its my bad, but im kinda annoyed. i kno i would hate it if people kept bugging me about something.. but i would take their advice and fix the problem

and yea practiclly all the threads i see are FBT talking about another animal

ok im done here.

hmmmm

roseK you do the same thing. I see a thousand post about your turtle every hour..
