There are several species of plecos that do not grow larger than 4 to 6 inches that would work in your tank.

can you recommend one thanks. It was a gibbiceps I had afore and I go hassled here to take it back

I was thinking Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps but according to the book they get to 19 inches. However, I have never seen one bigger than 12 inches.
If you have some money you could try a Panaque nigrolineatus, they get to 12 inches and are cool looking. Also Panaque suttoni with their little blue eyes.
And finally Hypostomus punctatus gets to about 12 inches.
