Hi all,

How d people control your brown algae. It has coated plants and i am a bit worried that it might kill them off. I control it from the glass by using a magnet and the gravel by a vac... It there any way of killing it off before it gets everytwhere?

If you didn't have any live plants then a blackout would be good.

Although I'm not sure if this only works on certain types of algae??

i've read that brown algae likes low light levels, so raising the amount of light in the tank should stop the brown algae. however, you will most likely have green algae then.

i'd run a uv sterilizer after scrubbing the tank free of algae to kill water borne algae before they have a chance to stick onto any surfaces.

Typically, it is a new tank issue and will go away after a few months with no special intervention.

Increased water changes should help as a simple stop-gap.
