well i woke up this morning, should be feeling properly rough by all accounts

looked over at Binky's tank and saw he's started his first ever bubble nest :D my little boy's becoming a man! ha ha

I got so excited all my thoughts of poorliness disappeared :D

Yay for Binky! Boo! for hangovers 8)

I still think it's cool when Rocket bubble nests, makes me think I'm doing *something* right, lol

aye, i was wondering why he hadn't before now. guess he was just growing up and I'm not making a complete hash of looking after him! He's my first betta and I'm so chuffed he's doing well.......

the bad thing is it's making me terribly tempted to put our girly betta sardinia in with him for a short while :shifty:

really know i can't though, don't know the first thing about breeding and haven't got grow out room etc

Yeah, bubble nests do that to a girl!

I saw that all 4 of my boys had blown new nests overnight after their water changes. They didn't miss a beat and they hang under them with their little pointy noses sticking straight up to them.

i was very dissapointed when i got home last night to see it was gone, but when i got up in the morning he'd started again :D

he's not very good at them yet i don't think, practice makes perfect though :D

Is he with a filter?

yeah it's just a trickle filter though, we've reduced the flow so there's not too much around the tank, and where he's building it at the front of the tank there's next to no flow.

i had thought that the surface movement could be breaking it up. :/

will it stress him out if it does?

Probably not. He'll just be persistent. See if you can fin something to float there--even tie there. They like to blow their bubbles under something to attach to. Mine especially like to have a piece of IAL. Synirr attaches a half cup of styrofoam (lengthwise.)

i've got sme IAL at home might try that, my plants are gradually becoming more established, some are nearly reaching the surface now, would that work?

I don't really *need* him to be able to keep them together though, not planning on breeding him (unless temptation really gets the better of me)

Ah well, you know about those unplanned, impulsive pregnancies.

I often have a plant hanging over and in front of the flow from the filter. But try a piece of IAL it will help the nest for a few days too stay. We wouldn't want him to feel inadequate.

Post a pic of his masterpiece.
