Hi :)
I have an Elite 35L rectangular tank in which I had been breeding Kribs, however just the other day, my female died  However I am already thinking about something different to breed since Kribs were so easy.

My water parameters are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: Don't know - haven't tested it :)
pH: 7
And I think the water is quite soft :good:

So I'm wanting some ideas :D So far I've thought about Rams but can't think of something else that's exciting! I was talking to the guy at my LFS today and he suggested corys but I'm not sure if I would just want a tank full of corys and nothing else :/ He also said he could get me in a pair of Dwarf Cichlids - I can't remember what they were called but he said you could get them with guppy tails if that helps :S

It'll be a couple of months before I can get any new fish as I have a 2 week old spawn still with my male krib so I'll need to wait until I can get them away first :)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :D Thanks!

Claire

I can't think of any dwarf cichlids that would be happy in 35L's.

neolamprologus brevis is a dwarf african cichlid but unlike the cribs it requires a higher ph.
its a shell dweller only growing about 6cm long and likes to live in a group and needs at least 1 shell per fish.
have a look at the profiles on the old world cichlid section.
very very easy to breed but something different.

Neo.multi would be better in that size tank, just buffer the ph with some barnacle shells.

Guppies and platies will not be very happy in low pH soft water. For that kind of water, stick with South American egg layers or similar fish.

Thanks for the quick responses :D

Don't get me wrong, I like platies and guppies but I was thinking about something a bit more unusual :)

I will look up neolamprologus brevis and Neo. multi to see what they're like :good:

What about the rams? What do you guys think? Thanks again ;)

How about inverts:
Challenge would be amano's, profitable would Crystal red shrimp or Crystal black shrimp (high quality A+ colouration), Long haul would be assassin snails, colourful would be apple snails, pair of red claw shrimp (machrobrachium) would be interactive.

Axolotls would definitely be something different
Dwarf puffers would be interesting to breed
Developing your own guppy strain....

How about galaxy rasboras if you could get hold of some? Pretty little fish, and you'd be doing the fish community a favour! :)

Hmmm the crystal red/black shrimp, the DPs and the galaxys have all caught my eye. I like the idea as well of being able to get rid of them easily and maybe for a wee bit of money :D
Well we can all hope...
Can you keep hrimp with DPs? It would be cool to combine the 2 :)
And also, with the DPs - do you need to have a ratio of 1m 2f or does it not matter?

Thanks guys!

i would only have 1 male and 1 female puffer in the tank and make sure it is well planted with lots of caves. you could put shrimp with them but the dps might not like them and might attack them. i would stick to just shrimp or just dp's.

DPs will probably not hunt them down but be opportunistic with the shrimp ultimately the shrimp will get eaten and any juvies are unlikely to survive. So not a good idea to combine the 2. Pretty much any fish will eat baby shrimp so if you want to be semi serious about breeding them then fish in the tank is not a good idea. If you do go down the CRS or CBS route then you can keep other shrimp with them (check before getting any as you may hybridise them) and other inverts which are just if not more interesting then fish.
