Was looking to set up a breeder tank. What size should I get (UK conversion if possible) and what kit will I need? I'm probably going to use it as a betta breeder (although possibly guppy breeder).

Well depending on what you plan on breeding will determine what kind of a set up you need. But for guppies or bettas a 10 US gallon would be fine, so I think thats around 8.3 UK gallons.

Hi

I would personally recommend a minimum of 10 UK gallons for breeding bettas. Should you breed bettas bear in mind you will need loads of gallon containers too, for when the fry are about 8 weeks old. The bigger the spawning the longer the fry can generally be kept together, but not always the case.

For Guppies I like a 60 x 30 x 30 or 60 x 30 x 40 tank 54L / 60L which I will split either 1/3 and 2/3 or 1/3 , 1/3, 1/3 with tank dividers.

Depending on what space you have then this is a good size to tuck away, if you are patient and look around you can sometimes pickup the above complete setup even with a stand very cheaply second hand, bit of a clean up and they look like new.

Shop around for the dividers I use the penn plax ones generally and have seen the same divider at £3.99 to £10.99 (18inch high to cut for 15 inch high tank) in different LFS.

ok thanks guys! Decided I might set up two breeders; one for both gupppies and bettas :) Probably going to focus on bettas first.
