Brand New 174 Gallon Fishtank! (pics Included)

Hey Sting if you're out there, keep us updated on where you go with this tank. I'm really interested and sorry that you're thread got thrown off course.

Sorry for the late death of me; Really caught up these days

A tragedy !
2 goldfish dead  Must be the filtration

I really dont know if its doing the job !

So not adding anymore fish or anything until I get that sorted outt
Is it possible to add a second filter to the tank?
As to everyone questioning the size of the tank ( lol )

Ill post a pic ASAP :good:

Unless its a toy fridge im pretty sure the tank is 174 gallons

thankyou snooks 1 :good:

Sorry to hear of the loss, as this is a new tank i presume a new filter too,

had the tank been cycled before the fish were put in,

have you been able to take any reads on the water stats 9ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrates) ??

if so then post them as there are many eperienced people here that can help and may be able to advise as to why your fish have died.

Like the look of the tank unusal but a good unusual.

new filter aswell, correct

The tank was cycled for a week; Dont think that was enough

Ammonia levels were propably the reason
Ill upgrade the filter if/when possible :S

It may not be a case of "upgrading the filter but cycling, 1 week is no where near enough and im afraid to say this is the likley cause for your fish. if your tank has no livestock i would higly recoment=d a fishless cycle as this way you will not have any other fish suffer or die while cycling, have a read HERE for two meathods of fishless cycling and also go through all the pinned topics on this (new to the hobby page) i would also invest in a good liquid master test kit, myself and many recomend the API master test kit. this will allow you to track the cycle of your tank and determin when it has cycled and when it is safe for you to add more fish.

If you still have fish in the tank i would recomend a large water change 60 - 70% and to pick up the water test kit asap and keep doing large water changes until you can get a hld of one, this way you will be diluting the ammonia which will be building up as gold fish are messy fish and produce alot of waste which wil put a filter understrain that has not cycled.

out of curiosity what size and type of filter do you have ?? did it come with the tank or did you get it seperatley ??

Update: Bought 20 more goldfish however another one recently passed away so 25 goldfish in the tank now

You added 20 goldfish at once in a relatively new tank

You have already been pointed to articles on cycling and the importance of the nitrogen cycle, In 1 day you have effectively put 5x the normal load on your filtration system, there is no way it will be able to cope with the massive change in ammonia production.

i think it was mentioned earlier in the post that 8 GF was probably overstocking that tank even at the size it is and now u have added another 20  :S lol u will have many more deaths and u will be suprised how quick them fish will outgrow that tank. u need 2 cycle otherwise u are throwing money down the toilet and not 2 mention subjecting ur fish 2 painful unhealthy conditions :(

Why not just stop bitching about how big the tank appears to be.

The guy said 174 gallons, the measurements support this, just leave it at that. And even if it's not...Does it really give you that much joy that you must ALWAYS be right about every single thing you say, do, and question?

Whether you say "meh" or not, this reply was very insulting......You called me a ***** !

I come here for help and support in order to better my fishkeeping skills. I ask way more than I reply as I am no expert.

This type of insult should not be allowed on here. I can find a friendlier place to go.

Don't be so melo-dramatic he/she didn't call you a *****.
The tank is the right size, albeit it looks small from the front on picture but those fridges are huuuuge.

Im not sure adding more fish is a good idea, if your getting problems you shouldn't add more fish which will just complicate the issues more and endanger more fish .

if you have added all them fish i would just do a big water change like every day or 2 till your water settles down but there is to many as goldfish do grow pretty big

The stocking capacity of a tank is much more dependent upon the -surface area- of a tank, not the volume. From the picture, this looks to be dramatically tall tank. I believe its real capacity will be closer to whatever a tank would be that had the same surface area but was only 12-15 inches tall or so. Am I way off here?

Also agree that all the classic beginner problems with filter preparation appear to be happening here.
