Bojangles Fishless Cycle

Seems like my Nitrite has gone of the scale again as soon as i put the drops in it goes a deep blue colour with a purple tinge at the top then after 5 mins it goes to the purple 1 ppm reading.

This mornings test

Day 10 Fishless Cycle

12 hour tests

Ammonia - 0 (-4 ppm in 7 hours)
Nitrite - 5+ppm (Getting a reading of 1 ppm after 5 mins but water is turning purple as soon as drops hit it)
Nitrate - 40 ppm
PH - Did not test will do when i add ammonia at half 10

Was getting excited about the thought of maybe getting fish in next sat aswell

Should have a 190L tank (£30) by Sunday night but will have to try and find a stand for it and buy a more wattage heater before i can fill it and switch the filter over and add the big filter i got from you in to it

12 hour test

Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - reading 1 ppm but going purple when drops go in so off the chart
Nitrate - 40 ppm
PH - 7.6

Been advised to do this on another forum to bring nitrite down to a readable level and to lower Nitrate

Should i be doing this or just leave it?

I did a water change because i needed the tank light enough to move it a foot or so.

Did around 80% change been full again for nearly 2 hours just tested water

Ammonia - 0 (topped up to 3 ppm)
Nitrite - Off the scale
Nitrate - 40 plus
PH 7.6

So really the water change did not do anything but i did finally get round to moving tank abit should stop the wife moaning

Nitrate still increasing then - Nitrite must have been stupidly high.

Support this is the difficult bit of a cycle - You need to keep the ammonia input up to keep the ABacs alive, but each ppm of ammonia creates more than double that of nitrite.

Think me adding 5ppm twice every 24 hours untill other day might have something to do with

Nitrite is sky high as soon as the drops hit the water there purple.

Added 3 ppm of ammonia at 8:30 this morning and by 2:30 it was back to 0 ppm

I have just got Gears of war 2 to keep me going till tank is sorted :D

Being in your nitrite(NO2) spike stage of fishless cycling after only 11 days is a very fast cycle, you're lucky!

How many hours is taking to drop ammonia to zero ppm?

~~waterdrop~~

Round about 6 to 7 hours

Last time i added Ammonia (4ppm) was at 8am yesterday morning and by 2:30pm it was back down to 0

This mornings results

Day 12 fishless cycle

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 1 ppm (water turns light blue instead of a deep purple when drops it and tube is shook)
Nitrate - 20 (drop of 20ppm is this suppose to happen?)
PH 7.6
