Blue Lobsters

Hi guys and girls was just looking some advice on keeping blue lobsters in a tropical community tank. I have no small fish in my tank but I would really like to put a blue lobster in it as I find them amazing to watch.

I started out keeping my blue lobsters in a community tank around 8 months ago. They are now in a species tank and will soon be in individual tanks. With the blue lobsters any slow moving long finned fish in your tanks will eventually be a snack. Any other fish still have the potential but slow movers or bigged finned fish just have no chance.

After experiencing it myself I would recomend against putting them in a community tank. However if it is somthing you realy want to do I recomend not keeping any fish in it that you actualy want to keep.

I had mine in a tank with guppys, Mollys, Platys and a very short lived pleco. All things in the tank were at some point on the menu even the lobsters them selves. Make sure you have a seperate tank for molting if you have more then 1 lobster. They are very opportunistic and very aggressive my male is still only half way to having one of his claws back after my female munched one six months ago.

Also keep in mind you said several large fish are in the tank if your meaning cichlids many of them will eat the lobster.

as for care:

Heater is a must they do not do much if they are cold except hide.
Live plants will become snacks.
They like to eat slices of fresh cucumber and mine love shrimp pellets or algea tabs as well
Caves and things to climb on keep them happy.
Marine iodine once a week at 1/2 dose helps with molting (remove carbon filter for 24 hours after)
A tight lid is important they can climb the silicone that seals your tank, The babys can even walk right up glass

I am sure I will think of more cus I love my blue lobsters just all thats popping in my head right now

Thanks very much for the reply mate! think I will buy a seperate tank for another room in my house just for the blue lobster! I have had some off my fish for near 3 years now and I dont fancy them becoming lunch for the lobster. Thanks again

Not a problem You will love watching them climb and rearrange thier tank Mine have literaly built walls in thiers

Never kept them, but I did see them for sale in a LFS once. They had a lovely blue halfmoon SFF in the same tank. With half its tail missing. I happened to go back the next day. The SFF was no longer there.
