Blue Lobster Problem

HI My blue lobster has what seems to be like oringey woolly looking stuff on his joints on his front arms/legs is this normal or dose he have something wrong with him?.

Sounds like some sort of fungal or bacterial growth to me.

What are your water stats (as in ammonia, nitrite and nitrate).

Have you done a search within this forum to see if anyone else has posted a similar condition?

Hopefully someone more experienced in blue lobsters can help.

my last check of my water was all good. but think i will go get a kit in the morning and check again. all my other fish have no problem and all seem healthy.

This is normal for healthy adult male blue lobster/red claw crayfish . Nothing to worry about . Heres a pic of the arms on mine, see the "fuzz"?

Some decapods have even more "fuzz" on their arm, check this male Macrobrachium shrimp., no fungus .

as your cray ages, it will collect algae and the odd worm too.
the longer between moults, the more stuff has time to grow in the carapace.

I'm sure i posted a pic on here, showing a 900 gram redclaw @ something like 8 years old.
it was so covered in algae and "tings" it had to move in order to be seen, well most of the time.

I'm not sure, but i believe this "fur" starts to form after the "mature" instar. (roughly 7 months old)
and, probably, has something to do with keeping the cray's joint free from restrictive build-ups.

Very interesting, lots of fine bristles in the way to stop particles/organisms sticking to the actual joints, never thought about it before!

well here is a little background first.... that is Bub the crayfish, he was 6 inches long claw to tail. we was about 2 inches when i got him. he was brown then. with every molt he would turn bluer and bluer. that pic was from his last molt. in other words-he is dead in that pic he had a bad molt and his new shell under his claw was not developed, so he died. if he finished molting, he would have been brown, the blue was his color from last time. as for the fuzzy stuff around his legs, i have no clue what it is!

this was Bub when he was young and getting more blue:

fast forward, Bub is 6 inches (claws are 2 inches) and has blue claws and highlights:

i know his claws were not developed because i keep the claw shells (to see how much they have grown from the last molt) and my dad pulled the "meat" out of his arm that fell off, and inside was a brown floppy claw i do have both of his last claw shells.
he is alive in this pic, has molted his tail, body, legs and has lost an arm:

he was the best cray, but if he didnt die, i wouldnt have gotten my cloning marbled cray and owned 37 baby crays!
