How much would you pay for one, my local fish shop are charging 30 pounds is this too much?

Its kind of the going rate - some shops go upto £50. But its just one of those fish that will sell for what ever they can get for it.

Just make sure its a healthy one as they are often sickly and weak. But strong ones can be found and are stunning fish!

Some of the most beutifull fish have seen on this site have been jd's! im very shocked from my responses. What advice can you give me to choose a healthy one?

Its really really hard to do now - when they first came out certain strains and suppliers were good genes - something about the way they cross the genes early on seems to do it but Im not sure.

Also at the start they wanted so many of these fish out there that they had very low quality control - so deformed and runt fish got through and that was often some of the issues.

I agree with you though they are stunning fish! JamesFish had a stunning male and was perfectly kept but died early at only just over a year old.

But then again there are some that are going strong and are good healthy fish :)

I'd just get a regular JD instead of a blue one. They're much cheaper, healthier, and easier to come by.

I have a breeding pair of regular jacks that are stunning. I personally think they are nicer than the blues

I'd agree with regular JDs being stunning, overall hardier then EBJD, easier to find and much more likelihood of them turning out healthy (i.e. no beak or deformities)....My avatar contains a photo of my old EBJD, was approx. 9” and absolutely stunning, will post some more, unfortunately was one of the most skittish fish I ever kept and he was rehomed about a year ago.

I'd pay £35 and was going to but the shop had sold out the electric blues. I saw powder blue ones for £22 but opted for a normal one for £3 . I wouldn't get one now as I wouldn't want 2 together

I see lots of problems in your future. 4 JD's of any sort is a #105###load of fish in a 4 foot tank.

I agree. I wouldn't keep more than a pair alone in a 55g without other tankmates. I have a breeding pair in a 55g and I can see an upgrade when they are fully grown
