Black Dots In Filter Water

Ok just emptyed my external filter to see if there was any babys in there and to give it some matenace and while i was looking in the water there was little black dots moving about in there not much bigger than a pin prick what the hell could they be. They were deffently alive PLEASE ANY ONE

Possible i did have a few little snails in my filter DAM THINGS but they did seem to be moving to fast around the bowl to be a snail I could be wrong though

Thanks just had a quick look through and i am almost sure it was not a snail. But now going to have a good look through it all.
