If it's not clear from the title of the thread....I've got plans in store to redo my room into where my non-human children will reside along side me. Some of the plans I have are starting quite soon, so why not start a little journal now instead of later? Anything I plan doesn't have a specific time I know will happen, as it all depends on me, my physical state, my mental state, and my wallet all aligning in agreement. If we hit the once in a blue moon occasion that those four factors line up, chances are that we'll see an update from here. But to give a little look at what's gonna happen, I've got it drawn out here.

Phase I : Aquarium Rack

  • Acquire 3 bettas
  • Build an aquarium rack
Phase II : 10g makeovers

  • New Guinea "Biotope"
  • White Cloud Mountain Minnow tank... (debating what species)
  • My first reptile.... o.o
Phase III : Shrimps and Primps

  • Hopefully set my shrimp tank up again
  • Makeover/redecorate the bedroom
Phase IV : Feathers and Scales

  • A possible look into my first bird/birds?
  • Set up my first 20 gallon, and possibly more after?

How long will this take? Will anything happen after? Will Binh meet his demise in the process? You'll have to tune in because....

Phase I : Aquarium Rack

We're starting off strong with the purchase of three bettas! But, this fails to meet the goal as only one of the three will belong to me. Let's take a look, shall we?

This was my first time ordering fish online, from the seller that I had bought Armani from (pictured below).

The "Premium Black Samurai" betta will be my new boy, and the gold one being a gift from me to my sister. The halfmoon one was to be one that my sister was going to buy for herself, but we got an email today telling us that the betta had changed colors and did not look exactly like the fish she was seeing. So, the seller was gracious enough to allow us to swap out the fish for this Betta mahachaiensis to be pictured below. This will be the first wild betta to enter the hands of either one of us, which is quite a blow to me as I had plans to get one, but it had been sold before I had the chance to get my hands on it. I also have quite the suspicion that she only is getting the wild betta because I pointed out that I was interested but I wouldnt be able to get the betta :p.

Though I do have some more things to say, I'll leave that here for tonight, to linger your suspense ;)....and definitely not because it's 4:20 in the morning and I may or may not should be sleeping.

Woah! Gold betta for $28?! That’s a complete ripoff!
Don’t buy them!

We get these guys for only 15THB (about $0.48) here!

But if you want to keep 3 bettas, you need 3 small tanks :)

Plus larger ones for other fish.......

I've been seeing large tanks with siliconed-in glass dividers on craigslist for sale a lot recently. Basically, large tank split into smaller sections with individual watertight compartments allows you to keep multiple "tanks" in a smaller space.

We don't have those kinds of prices here for any betta ;)

I'm not allowed to get larger tanks.

I've worked with that before, that's how I kept my bettas before they died. But I'm going to keep these three in three 5 gallon tanks. For more space, and so that there's more versatility with the tank for when they pass away.

Just finished working on the tanks (it was a 7 hour process!). Time for a little update.

To prepare for our incoming betta, who is on the way and will arrive in approximately 5.5 hours, I had to prep the existing shelf I had for the to be built aquarium rack. The depth of the rack was to be 16 inches, so I have to move the shelf 16 inches to the right, so that neither shelf was in the way of the other. But since we're pretty close to December as well, I decided to empty the substrate in the tanks so that I would be able to rescape them for Christmas (if anyone knows how to make a little Christmas tree with live plants, please let me know!). I have some ideas such as hornwort garlands, little igloos as hides, etc. And also a new white sand as substrate for the holiday season. But here's how the tanks look now.

The rest of the room is currently a mess as I had to move stuff off of the shelves to be able to move it. So I have animal figurines all over the floor, and wires and such all over the desk (that were already there :p). But it'll be all gone tomorrow (well, later today, it's 5am). This is the small update for now, but I have more in store!
