Meet Danica, our collie family member. She came to our home in July of 2025 after our 12 year old collie, Forte, passed. Danica is our 5th collie in our 44 years of marriage.
When we met her, we knew instantly that she was what our family needed and the 7 month old Danica wiggled/wagged her way into our hearts. The breeder had named her Danica ….sort of …… after the race car driver Danica P. We don’t follow racing, but looked up the name and found out it is Slavic for “morning star” which we liked and so, since she responded to her ‘Danica’ name already, we kept it. She does run like a racer though.

Danica loves to run in our fenced in backyard, play with squeaky toys, really chew on rope toys, lounge in our living room chairs. Btw…..I must be getting older as this is the first collie we’ve let up on the couch/chairs. She is the smallest one we’ve had which helps some. Danica loves to quickly hop into the chair I get up from momentarily and when I return, I don’t have the heart to make her get down and so I sit elsewhere. Then, of course, she jumps up on the couch to be with me. Danica has graduated from two obedience classes and is likely to attend her third level class.

Dogs are my very favorite pet, and I have owned a large number of pets through the years. The unconditional love, instant forgiveness, eagerness to please, and affection dogs possess make the dog (imho) the ‘bestest’ of pets.
