Betta

I got my first Betta today, he's not swimming horizontally though. He's just floating vertically then swimming a little bit then floating vertically again. He's sitting on top of the filter in the corner of the tank a lot, I've turned the filter off for now as it was too strong and the current was pushing him around the tank.
Water is 25c and ammonia, nirite is 0.
Is he just getting used to the new tank or is it a sign that there's something wrong?

hes probably getting used to the tank ... turn your filter on and put something to reduce the flow over the outlet?

i would say a sponge but... some of them have harmfull things in them which could kill your bacteria maybe a tall plant? it would get knocked around a bit but it would split up the flow id think... or try to reduce the flow somehow...?

A bit of filter sponge would obviously be harmless.

The trick is getting it to stay in place

Keep the filter on the lowest output. If it's still too strong consider getting a smaller one - fighting a strong current will quickly exhaust the betta.

Decor and plants will help break up the flow and provide shelter from the current.

i read on the forum someone killed there bacteria by using a sponge. but i use one all the time to clean the glass so, just make sure it clean

I took a plastic bottle and cut the ends of (like a 16ounce coke bottle) washed it really well with hot water. Cut it down the side and put that over the filter outlet.

This is where I got the idea from.
