i have a real fancy male guppy...i want to mate him with my fancy female but im unsure how i should go about it, she has her own tank (32 litre) and i was wondering if i should add him into her tank? i cant add her to his tank as there is another guppy in his tank...so anyone?

If you have a female that is not carrying fry from a previous mating, you can just place the selected male with the female long enough for them to get busy. Unfortunately, when you are trying to do selective breeding, a female can carry sperm packets and continue to use them for about 6 months. That means that if you do not know the female's history, it could be a while before you know for sure that any fry you get belong to the present male.

How long has she been on her own?

As Oldman says, they can store sperm for over 6 months, so until that passes you cant be sure.
If she has been opn her own for a few months and never produced fry and look's quite slim she may be fine.

All you need to do is put them together it's as simple as that.
then in 4-6 weeks you mat be looking at some fry.

well, ive had her for a good few months, she has been in the small tank on her own with other fry thats all, well there is a couple of shrimp in there to. Anyway she looks slim and hasnt released any fry since ive had her...so its def ok for him to go in there with her? i mean how long should i leave him in there, i dont want him to pester her to death lol

To be honest, I have found that the male is successful after just a few hours, althought my cousin prefers leaving them in for 24 hours.
Just watch them, if after 3 or 4 hours he is still chasing her around like crazy, take him out. the deed is done usually with in an hour of being together - the other couple of hours I put them in there is just to make sure it was successful.

Neither method will result in having more fry - the mothers age (older = bigger = more fry), clean water, nutritious food, and low stress is how to ensure a high count of healthy babies.

You should be able to leave them together as long as you wish. I do not often run into a situation where a single male is too pushy but it can happen.

well, this male wont leave the male alone in his own tank lol ive had him from when he was fairly small, he has turned into a little beauty and worth mating

In that case I would remove him after just a few hours Razer121.

BTW I'm in the middle of my own build. EVGA X58 SLI MB, I7 920, 6GB DDR3, ASUS 22 inch, Corsair 550W, Lite-on SATA2 DVD RW, 1 GB RAID 0.

LOL i understand it totaly ;)
Need to do a new comp myself some time!!!

As for the fish I would leave them be as a pair for several days.
I've tried several hours in the past with vergin fish and never got anything, but that was when i had more tanks

The random bit was about Razer's signature. Probably not my brightest move, but I remember when he first started using that sig and figured us ancient folk probably couldn't decipher it.

ah right lol well thats my old old old system i just cannot be asked to update it haha but back onto topic....

ive been observing them and all seems well but he isn't pestering her?!?! i don't get it
