Best Places To Source Rock And Slate For A Malawi Setup?

Thanks very much for the tips, links and directions, also for even thinking that you'd be prepared to help me out if I lived closer, I really do appreciate it all

Hubby has gone out looking near our closest quarry to see what's 'available' and what rocks he can source from the cliffs nearby bless him
Nelly, thanks I'll let him know your direction on where we might be able to get something suitable.
I would have liked to be able to use the 'holey' ocean rock but I think the total cost of that will be too much to be honest

My ph is usually around 7.6-7.8 so Limestone might be a possibility but I think it's going to be something like sandstone/purbeck stone considering where hubbies gone today. Will keep you updated on what happens

I think Cadnam garden centre (within which Southern Aquatics is based) has an assortment of stones and rocks, including slate

Managed to get some Ocean Rock and egg crates from ebay, I`m hoping 75kgs is enough

It was lovely to meet you today Goat and I promise I`ll do my very best to look after the fish, they`re being slowly acclimatised at the moment. I`ll get some pics up later if I can

Nice to meet you and your other half too! Its great to put faces to forum members, which now includes yourself, "VickiandKev" and "fishsouth.co.uk"

Have to confess I was really worried about my tieing up of the bag and then spinning it upside down to lose the dangerous corners for little fish like the Filament Glassfish.

They will soon start interacting with your family, fluttering their lovely long fins at anyone looking at their tank!

I will miss them but like I said, buying a community of very peaceful fish to go around them like your Black tiger Badis would mean spending more money on new types of fish, spreading my tight finances further. To pass them onto someone local who has a suitable setup with Pygmy Cory, Cherry Shrimp and Black Tiger Badis is a happy result for me.

Looking forward to seeing pics of them later in their new home...

They do get some unusual stock from time to time, its where my Barilius and three of my adult Lionhead Cichlids came from. Today I spotted some "Rocket Gar;" Blacktail Hemiodus; possibly a group of unlabelled Akysis catfish; at least a couple of Giant Scissortail Loaches that I now half regret not buying (they appear to be very rare in the hobby)...

But I agree about the state of their tanks, not the best by a long shot, the tropical ones all need a serious "vacuum" of all that floor debris!

Have to agree about the state of the tanks, lots of muck floating around in them, not clean at all

Did you read my recent posts in the African thread? It may be a possibility that I`ll turn to the Tang side yet IF I can get a stock list together of some pretty Tangs that are low on aggression.
The more I read up on the Mbuna the more I`m getting worried about the aggression involved. So far it appears that the main low aggressive fish I can have are basically the Acei and electric yellow labs.....it`s not enough of a mix for me if I can have only a couple of different ones

"Mr Stumpy" (poor Pearl Danio who lost its tail at beginning of week) and one or two Rabbit Snails make cameo appearances, but the stars of the show are making their debut opn the forum I think (for some reason I never did show off these rare Glassfish in the hobby that I've had for several months).

Ok, thanks! I thought it was a kind of mesh. Didn't know though that it can be used for filters. Thought it would be for a mosswall or some other hardscape....

Thanks Biulu, the strange thing is that the Windlov has needed very little maintenance or supplements (like Easycarbo or ProFito), it has just bushed out really well. By far my favourite real plant purchase to date, I love the "seaweed"-like ends to the fronds.

I agree with you. I have it in my tank as well on a big piece of wood with many crevices (see my journal). Unfortunately I got a crash several months ago during which everything, literally everything died, so the windelov is still relatively small, but I can already see that it has started growing again.
