My kid brother really wants a betta after seeing pics of mine! However, he lives in Whitby and has been to several LFS's and cannot find any. I suggested buying one online - can anyone reccomend somewhere? My brother only has £30 to buy a small tank, filter, heater, gravel and betta though I will help him out if needed :) He is autistic and doesn't have many friends so I feel it is great that he is channelling his energy into fish :) I know he can get a plastic tank for £5 :) and other bits cheap from Ebay so how much would you expect to pay for a betta plus shipping???

www.thebettalady.co.uk

also dpfishways and sqbettas

Just have a look n see prices plus postage :)

most of mine are from Shell @ thebettalady, n theyre gr8, good prices, quick del, fantastic lil fooshies (got another arriving 2moz yay!!)

only got one from modaz@dpfishways and one from steve @sqbettas

It might be pushing your budget if you buy online... Shipping rarely ducks under £10, and most online bettas are at least £5... So theres half your budget gone. You could probably find one in your local pet shop (lots will order them for you), a Pets at Home, for around £4-5 :) I know a few places within an hour of whitby,
and then you could get a better tank (at least 2 gallons, but id say get 4...)

But anyway, online shops.

www.dpfishways.com is brilliant, but under maintenance at the moment... im sure daz will have some nice ones though

Probably easiest to pm him on here. His forum name is "modaz"

the betta lady has awsome fish. you could try ebay for bettas, its quiet just now but you get stunners on there at sometimes quite reasonable prices.

as for a set up.. you are looking at almost £30 for a decent set up.

a 7 litre tank aprox £6
gravel aprox £1
small filter + pump +airline tubing aprox £12
small heater (id recomend a "newattino plus" for small set ups) aprox £12

Thanks Devoncharm, that is real kind of you. I will tell my brother to check out how much his setup will cost him and see what he has left, and then barter with him :p He doesn't leave the house much so maybe if he will go out a little more in the next week I will offer to help with his costs :p
I bought a small internal filter for my betta tank for £8, it is great but a little too strong so i put stiokcing over the outlet and now it is good :) so maybe i will pick one of these up for my brother at the weekend and that will be one less thing he needs :) He is only 14! And due to his circumstances, he won't get a job fo a long while yet :(

Hi! Well I can get one for a fiver but not too sure how easy it will be for my brother - I live in the big city and he lives in the sticks! :p Not sure how easy it would be to pack up and send a plastic tank :S but thanks for thinking of him!

OMG no way, if you send any more stuff then I am damn well paying you for it! LOL! you going for nicest forum memeber title or what! lol. I am sure he can get most of what he needs locally, i want him to learn some responsibility with his money. Though it is so kind of you to offer! :)

cant u take him to the city with u, n get the tank?

as for other bits n bobs, myself and hopefully a few others can help you out, as i said b4 ive tonnes of stuff :)

n shell said she'd do u a deal on a betta if u saw one on her site that u wanted when she gets her new shipment next week :)

Lol, my brother has left the house approx 6 times in the last 6 months. Big cities are not an option right now! It's a shame I don't drive because i could have bought all he needed in Manchester then drove up to Whitby with it all, plus the fish himself! But I don't, and won't be visiting for at least another month and a half :S Bad daughter/sister! :p
I'll get him to start pricing some stuff up and see what he comes up with.
