Hey all,

I have not posted in quite a while, but I am looking for some suggestions on buying a cheaper light for a 5g. I just set up my 5g again after months in storage, and I need a new light, obv a plant light btw. I am looking at 50 dollars or cheaper. Any responses welcomed. TIA!

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?
What fish did you plan on keeping in it?
What plants did you plan on keeping in it?

You could use a portable outdoor spotlight with a 15watt globe and it would probably be heaps of light. Get a LED globe with a 6500K rating (sold as a cool white) and plants will be fine. Some LED spotlights have spring clamps and you can clamp them onto a shelf above the tank and let it brighten up the room and the tank.

The main issue would be fish if the light is too bright, then the fish might stress a bit. However, if there are lots of plants then the fish would be less stressed by the light.
