Best Filter For A 4Ft Tank

I have a '4 fluval' and not 'fluval 4' filter, my lfs shop 'Visum' have them and told me that these are more reliable than the 'fluval 4' as their 'fluval 4 filters' keep braking down more, so they only use the 4 fluval filter.

I was wondering would that be fine for a 4ft tank as it does 900 litres per minutes and seems powerful.
I have white silica sand and a lot of the waste is shown on the floor and hard for the filter to suck in, including when 4-5" off the ground.
Will it be better to put the filter on the ground and is that filter good enough for a 4ft tank or will it best to go for a more powerful filter and which one?
does anyone have this type of filter and what size tank have you got?

900 litres a minute....... thats some filter if its true if you put a filter inlet too close to sand it will suck it up and clog the filter eventually. when doing water changes just use a syphon to remove any debris/poo from the sand, and dont forget to stir the sand up to release any trapped gasses

I currently use an Eheim Aquaball 2212 in my 4' tank but it does get dirty and clogged fairly quick, but I otherwise love it. Used to have a Fluval prior to that and the powerhead on that gave me no end of grief. I am looking to move it over to an external Eheim 2224 if santa is very good to me.

Really, 900litres per minute is a huge pump for an aquarium. It would make a very robust basement sump pump if you had a minor water seepage problem in a basement maybe. Just connect it to a 5 cm diameter hose and you could pump out that basement in almost no time.
