I've already got a tank up and running and am being given a tank by someone who doesn't want it anymore. He's got catfish, rainbow shark and clown loaches in there. Just wondering if any of those will work with the discus, german blue ram and appistogramma steel blue that I currently have? If none of those work with them, I will be rehoming those fish when I get the tank.

Rainbow sharks get very territorial after a certain size, and can get aggressive, but can be fine in a big enough tank, but that's often a lot bigger than people expect for the size of fish.

Clown loaches need to be in good sized shoals and get to 12 inches in length, so you're talking about 6 foot plus tanks for those to be happy in the long run.

Otherwise there are thousands of species of catfish, some of which are great with discus, some are terrible. Corydoras and plecostomus groups tend to get lumped into the general term catfish, cories are good with discus, plecs depend on the species, not that they're generally a problem, but some of them are common in the hobby but get huge.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

It all basically depends on your tanks size really.

As Dr Rob already mentions clown loaches, Rainbow Shark and dependant on what specie of Catfish it is, all require a large tank.

If you'd like further advice, i would suggest you post what size of tank/s you have and exactly what species of stocking you have already and we may be able to help you out further about whats possible.

Hope you enjoy the form by the way.

I'll be getting a 55 gallon tank, and I currently have a 46 gallon tank. The 55 gallon will be replacing my 46 gallon. As for the species I currently I have, they are in my original post. I have (currently in a disease cycle I can't get rid of from discus who had a stomach infection unknown to me at the time of purchase so did have male and female before) male german blue ram, one turquoise snake skin discus, a common pleco, two peppered cory's, one bandit cory, one female appistogramma steel blue. I will find out the fish that are in the tank later today but plan on rehoming the clown loaches and likely the rainbow shark as well (don't want the shark to be fin nipping for the more delicate fish)

I have decided not to keep the fish that were in the 55 gallon tank but discovered it had crushed coral. Will that be ok for my fish and live plants?

Crushed coral will raise the ph.  You will have to find fish that like a high ph.
