They're not too hard to find, but that's a fine example. A lot marked up as super red actually look orange.. keep your eye out for a private breeder that's not just breeding from poor strains for a few quid.
My apistos are only young, but the male is starting to look like that little fella now. Growing well and colouring up nicely Curious little characters and mine aren't as shy as I was led to believe. Well, they're always out.. Only my boring Khulis hide in my tank, everything else must feel safe as they're not short of hiding places.

I dont know where you live but QSS in Bradford West Yorkshire are currently stocking these or a similar kind. Also have some rams excellent colour best ive seen around here. I think there about 12-15 for a pair i bought two rams just over 2 week ago which spawned wednesday but ate the eggs unfortunately

Before when I wanted to get a pair I could only find the females and no males, the males have the nice colours. I think they can be quite hard to find and I go to quite a few big places.

Bought a pair of these from my lfs.

That's a "super red" dwarf cockatoo cichlid.

The females colour up nicely too no colour on fins though they are a yellow colour all over.

i saw some like this the other day, very nice, not as colorful though, i was tempted but wasn't sure if they would mix with my keyhole cichlids

They are South American cichlids so do not like high pH.

I'm not sure what keyhole cichlids are, are they African cichlids?

I have mine with cardinals, endlers and betta smaragdina all low pH loving fish

Keyholes are south american, my tank is 7.5 so probly to high for dwarf cockatoo cichlids

Keyhole Cichlids are also South American Cichlids and provided the tank is big enough with plenty of plants, there is no reason you couldn't keep the two together.

dwarf cockatoo cichlids are best at 6.5ph just done some googling

Ive wanted a pair of these for so long. Absolutely fantastic fish. Seen some at a Maidenhead aquatics near me for £16 a fish. I assume it was these as they looked very similar.

MrSpoon I keep mine at around 7.5 you will be fine just aclimatise slowly!

£16 each?! I paid £20 a pair in my local Maidenhead Aquatics!

Private breeders > LFS. Though I now work part time in the aquatics deparment of a Garden Centre and hoping to improve the quality of the stock at present, so will be trying to up the standards.
